No matter what they had learned before coming, all of them noticed great differences between the Caribbean and the UK, particularly in terms of language, housing, customs and, of course, food and climate. After the Caribbean, Britain looked grey and drab. There were many surprises. Some found the new experience exciting; others felt rather lonely and homesick. But everyone stayed.
