Professor John Parboosingh

Professor John Parboosingh was born in Jamaica, where he attended school and college. In 1957, aged 17, he was awarded a place at the faculty of medicine, Edinburgh University. He travelled to Scotland by plane. He graduated in 1964. He did house jobs in Edinburgh, before becoming a senior registrar. In 1972 he was appointed senior lecturer at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. He focused on obstetrics and initiated pioneering work in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Infirmary. In 1978 he took up a post at the University of Calgary, Canada, and moved to Ottawa in 1993 to set up a new e-training programme. He retired in 2001 to concentrate on research.
